The EFE Handbook

THE EFE HANDBOOK
This is a living guideline for club members

WEEKLY MEETING

The English For Everyone Club (EFE) has weekly meetings to review member’s practices and giving each other suggestions. This is also the opportunity for us to practice speaking English as well as developing our relationship. A positive relationship between the club’s members is essential in maintaining the club and making it a sustainable organization.
The time and location of the meetings are flexible, but it is suggested to be around Soongsil University, and normally at 5 PM on Saturday. We could meet in a pre-booked classroom or any available space around the school. We sometime could also have outdoor activities such as charity, camping together, tour guide for English speaking tourists.

DAILY PRACTICES

We believe in “Practice makes perfect” principle so we agreed and do the practices together daily. Below are the details of the practices which differentiate from skills.

Speaking

Each member of the EFE Club practices speaking English daily follows this schedule:
Record 5 (five) audio files a week from Monday to Friday, one audio file a day. It is suggested that the member does not record all audio files at once but do it daily for better results. The audio files must be uploaded in the EFE Club’s OneDrive folders for reviewing.
Attend the meeting on Saturday for audio reviewing as well as practicing speaking with other members

Writing

Writing will help the members to train their thinking in English (This is also true in other languages). When we habituate English language thinking, we would communicate better in English.
Each member of the EFE Club writes 1 (one) blog post in English with at least 200-300 words or 500 words depending on which level she/he thinks she/he is. She/he must upload the writing onto the EFE Club’s OneDrive folders for reviewing.
After the blog post was fixed, then she/he can post it to her/his blog

Reading

Reading English (e.g., books, articles, etc.) will help learners gain more experience in how to use sentences or words in certain situations. Reading English regularly also helps us to make more sense of the language. That will create or sharpen our English language ability gradually.
Each member of the EFE Club is required to read 1 (one) English book of her/his choice every 4 months and has to present to the club what he/she had read.

Listening

The babies, when they learn how to speak, mimic their parents by first listening to their conversation. They listen to their parents talking every day and gradually make sense of everything. Just like the babies, we, the English language learners, have to listen to the English language every day to improve our skills.
Each member of the EFE Club will practice listening to English conversation every day, 5-15 minutes each, to have an understandable conversation.

USING EFE RESOURCES

The EFE Club use free resources to support its members to practice English
Use Soongsil’s OneDrive to store practice files (e.g., audio, writing, documents, etc.)

COMMUNICATION

The EFE Club only uses Vietnamese in Facebook Messenger. We speak English 100% in other offline meetings and activities.
The main communication channel is currently the Facebook Messenger group chat. Besides that, members can contact the Organizer Team using email to the address dangtrinhnt@gmail.com for now (will be updated to a mailing list address).

ASKING FOR HELP

Nobody is perfect, we know that. Every member of the EFE Club is encouraged to ask for help at any time she or he needed via email or chat. We established the club for that reason so please do not hesitate or scared. Your learning results are your responsibility, take this chance to make a difference.
